I am Dr. Raktima Mukhopadhyay, a development professional in the field of Participatory Natural Resource Management. Currently I am serving as the Executive Director of IBRAD (Indian Institute of Bio Social Research and Development) and based at Kolkata, India. Our focus area of work includes building community institutions to promote conservation based climate resilient sustainable livelihood development through integrated landscape management, capacity building and empowerment of the marginalized communities with the core thrust on women empowerment and gender equality, promotion of participative natural resource governance system through action research and training of the government functionaries and communities. My work provides me great opportunities to travel to some of the remotest parts of the country and interact with people from different cultures and positions. Such exposures enrich me with rich insights and ideas on the social construct of gender and positioning of women within the broader socio economic mosaic of the development process. I thought of starting this blog to share my experiences with the larger audience. I also feel that blogging will help me in organizing my thoughts and sharpen my skills of writing and communication.
